Getting ready for Season IV

The Y&R Table Hockey League is getting ready for its fourth season. The league has reverted to an International competition. There are some familiar teams, and some new ones, and even a controversial coaching change. Here is a team by team breakdown so far.

OLD STANDBYS:

Harpov – Russia: The three-time Y&R THL champ is back with his Season I and Season II winning squad.

Canuck – Canada: Mick Canuck hopes a strong centre with Sid Crosby, and Captain RW with Jarome Iginla brings the glory back to Canada.

Sadhwani – Nigeria: Sadhwani took his LA Kings squad to the finals in Season III. He hopes to continue his winning ways in Season IV — with Mobo back in net.

Johnson – Poland: Matt Johnson led Altanta. Now he’s back at the helm of Poland. Czerkawski, Oliwa, and  – oh ya – that Vazichek guy that smokes a pack a cigarettes on the ice during the game.

Tung – China: Tung has experienced more success adopting the wide stance style of play. Now he hopes that he keep the goals out with his goalie, “Great Wall” Tung Jr.

Seegobin – Kazakhstan: Seegobin missed the playoffs by 2 points in season III – pinning all his Leaf hopes on NIk Antropov. He’s going to have to do that again with his Kazakh team.

Kess – Switzerland: The Swiss Chocolateer is back and ready to take season IV sitting down.

Gallinger – Belarus: Bill LaRoose is back coaching, and his team is ready: “The Belarus team has continued their rigorous training throughout their time away from league play and look forward to bringing a little something extra to their already solid style of play,” said Laroose.

NEW TEAMS FOR FAMILIAR COACHES

Govang – USA: Coach Tex Govang will be in charge of Team USA hockey this year. The team couldn’t come to contract terms with former coach Jimmy James Roth.

Stollar – Germany: Germany have lost former coach Payne, but have brought on Mike Stollar.

West – North Korea: The former coach of Finland was vacationing, This line here has been censored by North Korea- and now he’s coaching the North Korean men’s national team.

Kelly – Ireland: Chase Kelly will be leading the Irish this year.

USA WOMANS TEAM & USA MENS TEAM IN Y&RTHL

PROPAGANDA TIMES & OBAMA TRIBUTE

In a bizzare twist to the start of the Y&RTHL times, it seems that there will be two American teams in the Y&RTHL this season. The womens American team will be lead by Randy Govang while the Mens American team will be lead by returning head coach and preferred coached of the national team Jimmy James Roth.

Jimmy James was quoted as saying to the Commish

I think Randy picked the USA Woman’s team…so I’ll be TEAM USA MEN’S TEAM.
Otherwise I challenge Randy to a best out of 3 series for the rights of Team USA.
Or USA will enter two teams into the league this year because they have that much talent in their great nation. What would the league be if Jimmy James wasn’t leading the American’s to the final where they would ultimatly lose to Harpov? This year will be different mark Team USA words”

Reporters are waiting to see what the Woman’s Team USA Coach Randy has to say about Jimmy James’ challenge or has Randy just laided claim to USA out of spite as his team has fallen from the Yahoo Hockey pool’s graces.

Only time will tell.

TEAM USA CALLS OUT HARPOV

Propaganda News & OBAMA TRIBUTE

It would seem Team USA and Jimmy James have the “eye of the tiger” again as rumours have it that Team USA’s New but yet old coach Jimmy James left his arch rival or “the monkey on his back” Harpov a voice message saying how Team USA is coming after the Soviet Union / Russia and Harpov himself.

Many fans of the league are pleased to see the fight back in the eyes of Jimmy James and they are looking forward to all the table hockey banter that will come from season 4 of the Y&RTHL season.

TEAM UNITED STATES OF AMERICA IS BACK!

PROPAGANDA TIMES & OBAMA TRIBUTE

After yet another successful table hockey season where Jimmy James and his team lost to his arch rival Harper, he is heading back to his true roots to coach TEAM USA.

In a meeting with the press this morning Jimmy James gave the Montreal fans a tearful goodbye “Dear Montreal I’m deeply saddened by the fact that I could not deliever this great hockey rich city with another cup championship. Seeing how I could not deliever on my promise I will step down as coach of the Canadiens and take another crack at leading the Great Nation of the UNITED STATES OF AMERICA”.

One news reporter was quoted as saying ” Montreal is in mourning now, without Jimmie James leading our team we don’t have anyone else to coach us, Montreal will always hold a special place in its heart for Jimmie James and we welcome him back after next year when he loses to Harpov again in the finals”

The camp close to President Elect Obama said that it was the new presidents idea to bring back Jimmy James as the Coach of TEAM USA and made a personal call to Jimmy. He was over heard saying “when you think of Team USA you think of JIMMY JAMES and no one else, he has so much passion for the great game of table hockey and is a true patriot of this nation, we want change and Jimmy James will bring change in season 4 of the Y&RTHL”

After the press confrence Jimmy was seen picking up his table hockey gear and running to air force 1 to pick up his american players to start training right away (insert montage video here). As Jimmy James was getting into the plane he was heard yelling “TEAM USA ALL THE WAY”.

Colorado beats Cali, and the Bruins get Baroned.

In the last action of round one of season 3 Y&RTHL playoffs, Gallinger’s Colorado Rockies beat the West Coast Goldenseals 4 games to 1.

The Cleveland Barons also are going forward – they beat Boston 4 games to 1 in a hard fought series. The Barons will go on to face the LA Kings.

Just like it says on the side of the game – Playoff – an intense game 7, winner-take-all match took place yesterday in the International Food Centre. The Penguins and Thrashers entered the IFC tied at 3 games a piece in their Wales Conference Quarter Final Series. The Thrashers were trying to rekindle the magic that saw them go up 2-0 earlier in the series. The Pens took the next three games to lead the series 3-2 only to fall to the desperate Thrashers in game 6.

The Thrashers took an early 1 goal lead and if they were able to hold on it would surely have been the upset of the playoffs so far. But they couldn’t hold back the relentless Pens attack and in the dying seconds Sidney Crosby potted the go-ahead and gamewinning goal. Penguins take game 7, 2-1.

Please note: the Govang/HarperDome has been closed for all future games. Noxious substances have been detected. Could be asbestos but some suspect other foul smelling matter.

Calgary wins series

Detroit won game 4

4-3

but Calgary wins game 5

7-2

and takes the series.

In other news

Crosby gets a hat-trick, but it’s not enough as Pittsburgh loses game 1 to Atlanta

4-3.

Flames burn the Wings

Badger Bob Borwick’s Calgary Flames lead Kelly Chase Detroit Red Wings 2 games to 0 in the Y&R THLplayoffs.

GAME ONE:

Detroit has an impressive shot percentage. It looks as though if Detroit manages to get shots by the Calgary defence, that they’ll have a chance to win this series — replacement goalie Ken Wregget only stops one shot! Calgary, however, has a high powered offence that’s able to score a lot of goals on Detroit in a hurry.

Calgary 8 goals (17 shots)

Detroit 2 goals (3 shots)

GAME TWO:

Borwick’s Jarome Iginla scores a bunch of goals from the right side. Calgary replaces goalie Ken Wregget with Mike Vernon and gets some results.

Calgary 5 goals (11 shots)

Detroit 3 goals (11 shots)

California and Colorado open Y&R THL Playoffs – Season Three

Y&R THL Playoffs

The Y&R THL regular season has come to an end. And now it’s time for playoffs.

Lots of games have been played. A special shout-out to Hartford (Mike Epstein) for playing the most games of anybody this year – 20!

The LA Kings win the president’s trophy with the most points – 30 points this season. Congrats1

Blain Harper’s Senators scored the most team goals with 92.
And Winnipeg Jet, Jeff Kess  gave up the least amount of goals of any playoff-bound team — he was only scored on 7 times.

Here’s your playoff standing, points and position.
We’ve broken ties in points by the Goals For stat.

Division leaders are seeded 1,2,3 , by points, followed by the rest of the conference.

Throughout the playoffs the highest seeded team will play the lowest seed — and the higher seed will have home ice advantage – more games at home.

If, you’re the higher seed for example, you’ll play your first two games at home, second two away, then Home, Away, home, if necessary. The home team for a particular game gets to pick which side they want to play from on the board (USA or Canada)

Teams will play out of their conference, with the winner of the Wales and the Campbell conference playoffs meeting in the Johnson Cup finals.

WALES CONFERENCE
